Customize your proposal.

You’ve made it to the fun part — it’s time to craft your Day. We’ve put together a sample proposal document for you to customize.

Remember, your proposal will need to be tailored to fit your school’s needs and values, so make sure you fill out each of the customizable sections with your school in mind.

When you’re ready, take a look at the Checklist tab for all of the information you’ll need to complete the proposal.

Download the sample document below to begin customizing your Day.

Secure Time Off to Vote.

Your goals may be more targeted than a campus-wide Election Day with a public service component. Or maybe administrators have pushed back on those original objectives.

If so, the toolkit from Every Vote Counts (EVC) may be most useful to your ongoing efforts.

EVC’s toolkit details an array of policy options from excused absences to an Election Day holiday. It also includes success stories from other campuses.

For questions on Time Off To Vote, feel free to email EVC’s Executive Director Campbell Streator (campbell@evcnational.org).

Campaign for a Day of Civic Service.

Are you a law school student interested in Election Day class cancellation? Consider connecting with the American Constitution Society (ACS) on its Day of Civic Service initiative.

ACS shares our vision that Election Day presents a unique opportunity for impactful service learning opportunities, and an ACS Day of Civic Service reflects a law school’s commitment to civic participation and community engagement.

ACS has released several resources on this topic. Namely, their blueprint for class cancellation can guide you through how to advocate for, and then realize, a Day of Civic Service in place of Election Day classes.

If you have any questions or want to learn more about ACS efforts on this front, reach out to Michelle Herd (mherd@acslaw.org).
